Welcome to
Save Nashville Speedway.com

Southern 300 Pace LapThis site was created so that Nashville residents and others can show their support for the Tennessee State Fairgrounds and the Nashville Speedway.

Currently, the Tennessee State Fairgrounds and Nashville Speedway are in danger of being "redeveloped". An organization started by someone who moved to a neighborhood near the track is trying to get the city to "move" the Tennessee State Fairgrounds and Nashville Speedway race track, an impractical proposition at best. We need to put as much effort into saving the Tennessee State Fairgrounds and Nashville Speedway as we did into saving the Nashville Predators hockey team.

While currently known as Music City Motorplex, this historic speedway has had many names in the past: Nashville Motor Raceway, Nashville Speedway USA, Fairgrounds Speedway at Nashville, and Nashville International Raceway. No matter what it's called, this historic track deserves to be saved. It has been the starting place for NASCAR champions and is still one of the premier short tracks in the United States.

The first public meetings were held on January 22 and 23 by the consultant hired by the Fair Board to determine the future of the facility. In all, about 200 people attended both ngihts. Please see this blog entry for more details about the meetings.

If  you came here to sign the petition, I closed it to new signatures on Monday January 21. I presented the 150 pages, comprising almost 3000 signatures, to the consultant at the Wednesday meeting. To see the petition as I presented it, click here.

Be sure to check the blog for the latest information, including media interviews and other stories about the track and its history.

Please note that I am not affiliated with the current management of Music City Motorplex, Nashville Superspeedway, or the Tennessee State Fair Board. I'm just a race fan who thinks it would be a tragedy to lose this historic site. Also note that as far as I know, there WILL be racing in the 2008 season at the track. After that, who knows?
