Frequently Asked Questions

Q. Who are you?

A. I'm just a resident of Davidson County and a taxpayer. I used to run the speedway's web page.

Q. I'm a fan of the speedway at the fairgrounds. What can I do to help?

A. Hopefully, you signed the petition, and you attended one of the open houses. That's about all we can do right now. It's up to the consultant, who's scheduled to present some very preliminary ideas at another set of open houses in April.

Q. Will there be racing at the Fairgrounds in 2008?

A. As far as I know there will be. I believe the current lease runs through the end of next year, so I would assume so. You'll have to contact the track or go to their web site to get the 2008 schedule.

Q. If they close the track, what will happen to the NASCAR and IRL races that run there?

A. Please don't confuse the track at the Tennessee State Fairgrounds with the track in Gladeville, Tennesse, known as Nashville Superspeedway. Nashville Superspeedway is owned by Dover Motorsports and is a 1.33 mile concrete oval. Music City Motorplex is owned by the taxpayers of Nashville, and is a .596 mile high banked oval. The track at the Fairgrounds has been there 50 years, and racing, in one form or another, has happened on that site since 1891.

Q. Who's really behind this "save the track movement"?

A. I started this web site. I created the  petition. No one put me up to this. When I heard about the "green" movement, I felt I had to do something. This is it.

Q. Is the current management of the track involved in this effort?

A. They're not involved in this web site or the petition. I would assume that they're doing their best to help save the track, whether or not their lease is renewed next year.

Q. Why don't you have anything from [famous former Nashville driver] on the site?

A. Don't know any well enough to call and get them involved. I would certainly hope that the Waltrips, Marlins, Bufords and others who've raced there would like to keep the track around.

Q. Assuming the Fair Board continues to lease the track after 2008, do you think the current leaseholder should be changed?

A. This site isn't about the current management or leaseholder of the track. For my purposes, whoever holds the lease is irrevelant. The primary goal of this site is to make sure there's a track TO lease. Once that's decided, then folks can lobby the Fair Board or offer to lease the track or whatever.
