Petition to Save Nashville Speedway

NOTICE: I’ve closed the petition in order to prepare it to take to the Open House on Wednesday, January 23, 2008. See the post titled “Final Petition Numbers” for more details.

I've created a petition that you can sign to show your support for the Tennessee State Fairgrounds and Nashville Speedway. During the meetings in January, I plan on taking the petitions to the Fair Board so that they'll have a better idea of how much public support there is to keep the Tennessee State Fairgrounds and Nashville Speedway at their current location.

The text of the petition is as follows:

To:  Tennessee State Fair Board

We, the undersigned, are concerned that a historic part of Nashville is at risk.

The Tennessee State Fairgrounds as well as the race track currently known as Music City Motorplex (also known in the past as Nashville Speedway USA, Nashville Motor Raceway, and other names) are a historic part of Nashville, and losing those facilities would be a tragic loss to the culture of Nashville. Relocating the Tennessee State fairgrounds and Nashville race track is impractical and would be almost impossible to do.

Therefore, we respectfully ask that the Tennessee State Fair Board do whatever it takes to make sure that the Tennessee State Fair and racing stays at this historic facility on a long term basis.

If you'd like to make your voice heard, whether you live in Nashville or not, please sign the petition by clicking this link.

If you'd like to have a paper petition, you can download an Adobe PDF of it here. Print out both pages, then print out as many copies of the second page as you need. I'll have a fax number available shortly. If you want to mail them to me, see the contact page for the address.

Thanks.
